From tomorrow (Friday 21 August), DVSA will be reopening the online booking service from 8am for everyone. This means anyone will be able to book a driving test in England and Wales.
To ensure the booking service is available from tomorrow, some DVSA services will unavailable tonight (Thursday 20 August) from 6pm to 7:59am tomorrow (Friday 21 August) so the system can be prepared. You won't be able to:
- Book and manage driving tests
- Find driving schools, lessons and instructors
- Use ADI services (such as renewing or updating your registration)
- Check your Driver CPC training hours
- Record any Driver CPC training you provide
- Record delegated driving test details
You'll still be able to book and manage theory tests.
When you arrange a test, you will be able to see available appointments within the next six weeks. DVSA is not taking bookings any further in advance at the moment so it can react quickly to any changes in government guidance about coronavirus.
You should check with your instructor as to what test centers they cover, then check all their nearest test centres for availability if you cannot book a slot at their local test centre. Our instrucotrs will only go to their selected centres based on the areas both you and they are from.
New test slots will be made available every week, on a rolling six-week basis, so you should continue to check regularly for a test slot if you cannot find one immediately.
Taking your theory test certificate to your pratical testStudents should take a paper theory test certificate with them to their driving test if they have one. However if they can’t find it, they don’t need to order a replacement before coming to test.
Your pupils will still need to have a valid theory test certificate before booking and taking their test.
If they don't have a valid theory test pass, they should not attempt to take their test. The driving test pass will not be valid and they will not be given a full licence.
Critical workers helpline to closeFrom Monday 24 August, the DVSA helpline for critical workers will be closed. Any critical workers that need to speak to DVSA will need to use the usual methods of communication.
